Computer Domain Lecturer awarded Chamber of Engine
Sara Trapani - a lecturer at Computer Domain has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition for the Best ICT Engineering Project Award 2010 by the University of Malta.
The award which is sponsored by the Chamber of Engineers, recognises students who excel during their dissertation project in their graduation year. This year five projects amongst which was Ms. Trapani's, were awarded this certificate. The award was presented to the students during an Opening Ceremony of the ICT Projects Exhibitions organised by the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta, which was preceded by the Dean of the Faculty of ICT, Dr. Ernest Cachia. The award was presented by Ing. Saviour Baldacchino, President of the Chamber of Engineers.
Ms. Trapani said that it was an honour to receive such an award and added, "Short listing for this award means that projects have been assessed based on a number of criteria set up by the Chamber of Engineers. My project was one of 5, chosen from a total of 16. I was very excited when I received the good news! It was an honor to be short listed for such an award, and it feels very nice to be recognized for all those months of hard work that one puts into completing his/her thesis. The title of my project was ‘Lossless Compression of High Quality Audio and Music’. As part of this project I conducted a study on various audio codecs and compression methods to see which one is best suited for digitizing Maltese Music. In this way we can preserve our Maltese cultural heritage and it can also be made more accessible to the public."
Ms. Trapani is an ICT lecturer at Computer Domain Ltd, where she teaches National and Higher National Diploma students in preparation for the B.Sc in IT Top up Degree.
